These are the True Historical Facts of the Zapruder Film

The original Zapruder film stayed with Abraham Zapruder initially. He had copies made, and the FBI received one of these copies.

The FBI copy of the Zapruder film was indeed taken to Hawkeyeworks (Kodak's research and development lab) in Rochester, NY, for the purpose of creating enlargements. This was done to produce prints of specific frames, magnified up to 40 times, for investigational and presentation purposes, such as preparing materials for the Warren Commission. The CIA also had access to a version of the film at their National Photographic Interpretation Center (NPIC) in D.C., where they also produced enlargements.

While conspiracy theories about the Zapruder film's alteration exist, the official stance, supported by film experts and the National Archives, is that the original film was not altered. The film held by the National Archives is the original camera-original film.

The original Zapruder film was never at a facility where it could have been altered. This is a solid historical fact.

Dino Brugioni never saw the out of camera original Zapruder film he was lying and Douglas Horne fell for it.

Abraham Zapruder had posession of the film until he sold it to TIME-LIFE

Initial Handling: He allowed copies to be made for investigative purposes by the Secret Service, but retained the original.

Sale to Life: On the morning of November 23, 1963, Zapruder sold the print rights and eventually all rights to the film to Life magazine (part of Time-Life) for a total of $150,000. He did this with the understanding that Life would not exploit the graphic details of the assassination.

Later Ownership: In 1975, Time Inc. sold the film back to the Zapruder family for $1. In 1978, the film was placed in the National Archives for safekeeping. Finally, the U.S. government purchased the film from the family in 1999 for $16 million, though the family retained copyright, which they later donated to the Sixth Floor Museum.

National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Specifically, the original camera print is stored at the Archives' facility in College Park, Maryland, in a cold-storage vault. While the National Archives owns the physical film, the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, holds the copyright.
